Matt Rutler was basically Christina Aguilera’s jumpoff after she split up with her then-husband Jordan Bratman in 2010. Which means that Christina and Rutler have been together for more than three years. He was with her through those awkward clown-makeup years and he was with her that time she peed a little at a funeral. He was with her through dual arrests. He was with her that time she passed out drunk on Jeremy Renner’s bed. He was with her through the bright-orange years. He was with her through thick and thin. And now he’s going to be the new Mr. Aguilera. Christina posted the photo below on her Instagram, writing: “He asked and I said…”
That ring is… different. It doesn’t really look like an engagement ring, right? It looks like a diamond “fashion ring” for your left hand. But sure, if it’s an engagement ring, then so be it. I actually sort of forgot that Christina and Matt were still together, quite honestly. Christina went through a stage when Rutler was her “escort” to all of the assorted bars in Hollywood, and there were always plenty of photos of them out and about, stumbling around. But then Christina got cleaned up (I guess) and now she’s ready to get married. Okay. I would roll my eyes and say that there’s no future except that it seems like Matt is quite happy to be Christina’s quiet, unassuming boyfriend and now he’ll be her quiet, unassuming husband. Why not?
Here’s a crazy thought: Christina got engaged to Matt before J.Lo got engaged to Casper Smart. WHOA.
